Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister for Railways visited the City of Joy – Kolkata o­n date (8.1.2016) and inaugurated introduction of a mobile app for booking of paperless unreserved ticket of Eastern Railway for the first time in Eastern India. With the help of this app, passengers will be benefitted and as they do not have to stand in the queue and save their time. Now any passenger can download the mobile app o­n their smart phones and travel without any problem.

Hon’ble Minister for Railways also inaugurated display of first electric locomotive at Regional Rail Museum, Howrah. This class of locomotive rendered glorious services o­n Indian Railways by haulage of prestigious Mail/Express trains as well as numerous goods trains for a very long time. The locomotive was commissioned o­n 25th November, 1960 in Asansol electric loco shed. After the end of its service life o­n 22ndOctober, 1997, it was initially placed in National Rail Museum, New Delhi and was brought back to Asansol to mark Golden Jubilee of 25 KV AC traction in Eastern Railway. Now it is being displayed at Regional Rail Museum of Eastern Railway, Howrah.

Hon’ble Minister also flagged off Howrah-Yesvantapur Weekly AC Express, Howrah-Pune Suvidha AC Express, Howrah-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Suvidha AC Express and Shalimar-Chennai Suvidha AC Express and also a number of suburban services of South Eastern Railway. Hon’ble Minister also inaugurated the commencement of boaring work of East-West Metro under KMRC.

Addressing a large gathering, Hon’ble Minister for Railways assured the passengers for improved customer services for which he announced various schemes during his last budget speech.

Shri Prabhu emphasized o­n the IT related services particularly mobile app for security of women passengers in particular and general passengers in general. He also stressed o­n cleaning of coach and introduction of mobile app for paperless ticket. He appreciated the initiatives taken by Eastern Railway for these IT related apps. He said that the common passenger need clean toilet, clean stations and clean linens for which Railways are committed to take care of passenger requirements.

The safety of the passengers, the security of passengers is also a priority area for the Railways. Railways also taken care for the food by introducing a website of IRCTC through which o­ne can order his/her choicest food even if he is away from home by expressing his desire to have such food.

The refund rules are also reviewed and made simple where in case cancellation of service, the amount automatically credited in the account of the passengers. He informed that customer service is the focus area of Indian Railways for which a number of measures have been taken all over the Railways. He informed that in collaboration with Japan, Indian Railways is progressing and the operations of train services will be improved.
