Central Railway curbs irregular travel - registers 2.08 lakh cases & recovers 8.99 crores in August- 2017

Central Railway conducts intensive campaign against ticketless and irregular travellers. In its endeavor to provide better services to its bonafide rail users and also to curb the ticketless travel, Central Railway has regularly taken innovative steps. Senior Officers are closely monitoring the revenue loss due to ticketless travel and such other irregularities.

In the month of August 2017, a total of 2.08 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel and unbooked   luggage were detected as against 1.78  lakh cases in the month of

August  2016  registering an increase of 16.90 % in number of cases.

An amount of Rs.8.99 crore was realized from them in August 2017 as fine against Rs.7.12 crore in August 2016 thereby registering an increase of 26.18 %.

During the period April 2017 to August 2017, a total of 14.07 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel and unbooked luggage were detected as against 11.40 lakh cases during the corresponding period last year, thus registering an increase of 23.40% in number of cases. An amount of  Rs.72.14 crore was realized from them as fine against Rs.55.88 crore during last year, thus registering an increase of 29.11% in earnings.

During the month of August 2017, 302 cases of transfer of reserved journey tickets were detected and Rs.2.55 lakh were recovered as penalty.

Central Railway appeals to the passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets in order to avoid inconvenience and travel with dignity.
