Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways and Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development, Housing, Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India laid the Foundation stone for Foot Over Bridge for Nellore South Railway Station; Yard Remodeling and New Platform at Gudur Railway Station and launched High Speed Wi-Fi Services at Tirupati Railway Station (through remote video link) at Nellore Railway Station today i.e., on 24th July, 2016.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Minister for Railways stated that Indian Railways is poised for a digital revolution in the ensuing times. He stressed that no organization will be able to survive without digital compliance, and Indian Railways has chalked out a firm route map in this direction. The launching of High Speed Wi-Fi facility at Tirupati is a step in the same direction and during the current year itself, it is planned to extend Wi-Fi facility to 100 Railway Stations. Along with the same, Tenders too have been brought on to E-platform and rail projects too are being monitored on E-platform through Geo-Spatial monitoring on Indian Railways,
Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu added. Spelling out the plans of Indian Railways towards development of rail infra, the rail minister informed that a plan has been drawn for integrated transport solution for the state of Andhra Pradesh. In this regard, a joint venture will be signed between the Railways and Andhra Pradesh Government soon, he stated. Work on two dedicated freight corridors is in process and plans are on the anvil for three more of the corridors, entailing an investment of Rupees 3.30 Lakh Crores. The aim further is to attain completion of around 19 to 20 kms of new railway line each day in the next 3 years, as against the present average of 8 kms. There is a vision to be implemented for Indian Railways by the year 2030, he spelt out. The minister also stressed on the priority being given by Railways towards developing green corridors with not a single drop of human waste falling on the rail track.
Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister in his address spoke on the agenda of development which focuses on the need to reform, perform and transform. He made a strong pitch to ensure that the people are partners in progress of the country and expressed confidence that Indian Railways, the largest rail organization in the world will be able to successfully attain the objectives towards growth. Appreciating the Rail Minister for his dynamism, Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu, acknowledged that the PPP Model in taking up rail projects as envisioned by the Rail Minister is bound to benefit the people. The model ensures participation of State Governments and Indian Railways in infrastructure development. Utilization of Railway land being planned by the minister will enable source the revenue for speeding up rail projects, he opined.
Earlier, Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, SCR in his welcome address briefed the gathering on the new projects for which the foundation stone was laid and stated that the Foot Over Bridge at Nellore South will serve the needs of the growing traffic here while the Yard remodeling and new platform at Gudur will not just enhance the rail traffic handling facility here but also open possibilities for more trains and provide the convenience of second entry to the station. The High speed Wi-Fi at Tirupati is sure to add to passenger comfort, since the access to internet will help thousands of rail users including the pilgrim traffic.
